ENAEX Clients Success Stories

Introduction

Focus

Optimize fragmentation

After implementing the solution, the cost of drilling increased, resulting in the need for more wells. However, based on our simulations, the fragmentation (P80) results improved from 13.3 inches to 10.5 inches, which allowed us to enhance shovel performance and extraction, meeting the crushing requirements. The field tests confirmed our simulations, with a fragmentation in P80 of around 9 to 10 inches.

Maximizing high wall stability in open-pit mining with Advanced Pre-split Blasting Technique

The success rate of good pre-split discipline is measured against the visibility of pre-split barrels and overall condition and stability of the high wall. A success rate of 55% visibility of pre-split barrels was evident after the implementation of the first approved blasting parameters.

Improving safety, efficiency and operational sustainability

The implementation of DaveyTronic® electronic detonators has brought numerous benefits to Shougang: reduced fragment size (P80) at each detonation face by approximately 2 inches, increased ore excavation rate by up to 11% means more efficient ore extraction, increased crusher productivity by up to 9%.

Ensuring a more sustainable mining industry with Magnex®

The operation reduced blasting costs by 3.2%. By using MIC, the mining operation could eliminate the use of diesel in the pit and its management for manufacturing. This reduced 851 m3 of diesel in one year, equivalent to 476 tons of CO2.

Improving the performance of drilling and blast designs

Thanks to rock hardness modelling, optimized drill and blast designs. Ballast: compliance with the P80 fragmentation target by detection of soft zones with a 16% reduction in the load factor (gr/ton) and an increase in the drilling rate by 21%. Ore: compliance with the P80 fragmentation target by detection of hard rock with a 20% increase in load factor (gr/ton).

Optimization of ore mining near caves

Operational Efficiency and Environmental Responsibility with Densiex®, increasing productivity with respect to the environment and local wildlife

Densiex® lowered induced vibration by up to 30% when compared to conventional explosive emulsion (70/30), while maintaining the fragmentation standard during blasting.

Ensuring mine safety with a low-density emulsion

Thanks to this emulsion, we improved wall stability and generated benches with a lower risk of failure based on near-field cross-hole data.

In addition to improving mine safety, we reduced operational costs.

Blasting optimization and reduction of fines

Thanks to Enaex’s technical work, the client decreased its fine fraction (less than 50 mm) from 20% to 10.6%. The introduction of Densiex exceeded expectations, generating fine fraction at a rate of 9.3% in a 50-mm opening, signifying a 53.5% reduction compared to the baseline (20% passing through 50 mm).

Reduce ore fine ratio with Vertex A®

UMK mine reserved and stockpiled 14 174 tons of manganese ore from the first trial blast hence, limiting blending from other ore sources and revealing immediate feedback. The CV02 screening results revealed a Lumpy Fines ratio of 17%. With the new version of Vertex A®, we were able to not only meet UMK’s goal but also to exceed them by 3%.
